Electrica is a leader in the electricity industry in Romania, with a history that begins 120 years ago, with the first public lighting network in the country. The company united under the same name the three business lines (supply, distribution, through three regional operators, and energy services) when the European Unbundling Directive imposed a change in the name and identity of the distribution business lines in the energy companies' portfolios. A decision designed to give the competitive environment access to national energy infrastructure and to protect consumers from the effects of unequal competition.
